Meet your artist
Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) gave apples, bathers, and the landscapes of Provence a weight and structure all their own. Working through patches of color, he explored how forms occupy space. His patient reconsideration of familiar subjects opened new possibilities for painting and helped lay the groundwork for Cubism.
